Glass:
GLASS FOR THE MERCY-1 AND MERCY-2 BODY-KITS: For the MERCY-1 AND MERCY-2 front windshield you use a 1996 Nissan Maxima windshield and trim the edges to fit the body-kit windshield frame with A SAND BLASTER.

NOTE: Some people allow the bottom corners of the windshield go under the front fenders so that they do not have the trim the bottom corners of the windshield on the 1996 Nissan Maxima for the MERCY-2.
For the side quarter glass windows and back glass, you use clear plexiglass or any glass shop can easily cut the glass because it is flat glass and you can easily tint the glass after it is installed.
For the door glass on the MERCY-1 you use 1996 Chrysler 2 door Sebring door glass.
If you decide to build the MERCY-2 the best glass to use for the doors is a 2000 Saturn 2 door Coupe door glass and you can take the inside door glass track and motor from a Saturn door to make the door glass go up and down; however it is easier to simply urethaine or glue the glass in place on the doors. You can also install the Saturn's door glass motor and track to make the kit car's door glass go up and down.

NOTE: GLASS FOR THE MERCY-4 BODY-KIT: THE MERCY-4 USES THE NISSAN 1996 WINDSHIELD AND WINDSHIELD MOLDING AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO TRIM THE GLASS IN ANY WAY, THE MERCY-4 BODY-KIT IS ALSO DESIGNED TO ACCEPT THE 1996 NISSAN MAXIMA BLACK WINDSHIELD MOLDING.

NOTE: This is a photo of a real O.E.M. side mirror. To make your own mirror we suggest you use a ’00-’02 Hyundai Accent mirror assembly mechanism (Note: We have bought Hyundai Accent mirrors on eBay for as low as $7.00) and then glue it with fast drying urethane inside the fiberglass, mirror-housing. The fiberglass mirror-housing part automatically comes with your MERCY body-kit. You can also run a 12V wire to it and mount the power mirror switch inside the car to make it a “power mirror” but that is not necessary. You could only have a manual mirror that you adjust with your hand and that is the easiest was to complete the mirror project. You can actually use any type mirror mechanism from several different type used vehicles and then have a glass shop custom cut a mirror piece (Note: A local glass company in Alabama charges $12.00 for the custom-cut mirror) and then glue the custom-cut mirror piece onto the mirror mechanism.


 

TRIMMING THE TEMPERED WINDSHIELD FOR A KIT CAR:

-NOTE: WE CAN TEACH YOU BELOW HOW TO TRIM A $90.00 NISSAN MAXIMA WINDSHIELD IN 20 MINUTES WITHOUT BREAKING THE GLASS BY BUYING A $100.00 SAND BLASTER.

-NOTE: MANY LAMBO BODY-KITS REQUIRE YOU TRIM A 1996 NISSAN MAXIMA WINDSHIELD SO THAT IT WILL FIT THE FIBERGLASS WINDSHIELD FRAME. MANY TIMES THE SIDES AND BOTTOM CORNERS NEED TO BE REMOVED SO IT WILL FIT THE BODY-KIT.

-NOTE: YOU NEED TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FLAT AND TEMPERED GLASS. FLAT GLASS IS LIKE THE GLASS USED IN A RESIDENTIAL HOME'S WINDOW AND TEMPERED GLASS IS LIKE THE FRONT WINDSHIELD OF A CAR. THE FLAT GLASS IS EASY TO CUT AND TRIM BUT THE TEMPERED GLASS TAKES A LITTLE MORE SKILL TO TRIM IT.

-NOTE: FLAT GLASS WHICH IS USED FOR A LAMBO KIT CAR'S SMALL LONG BACK GLASS AND SIDE, QUARTER GLASSES IS EASY TO HAND CUT WITH A HAND HELD GLASS CUTTER THAT YOU CAN GET FROM EBAY. MOST GLASS SHOPS CAN ALSO CUT FLAT GLASS EASILY AND CHEAPLY. FLAT GLASS IS ALSO USED ON THE REAR HATCH LOUVERS OF A LAMBO KIT CAR AND THEN THE GLASS IS TINTED IN DARK LIMO TINT SO THAT THE REAR HATCH APPEARS TO BE MADE FROM TINTED GLASS LIKE THE REAL LAMBO CAR.

-NOTE: TEMPERED DOOR GLASS DOES NOT HAVE TO BE TRIMMED BECAUSE FOR EXAMPLE WITH THE MERCY-1 YOU USE THE 1996 CHRYSLER SEBRING DOOR GLASS AS IT IS AND YOU DO NOT TRIM IT AND WITH THE MERCY-2 AND 4 YOU USE THE 2000 SATURN 2 DOOR TYPE DOOR GLASS AS IT IS AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TRIM IT EITHER. HOWEVER WITH THE MERCY-1 AND 2 FRONT WINDSHIELD YOU BUY A 1996 NISSAN MAXIMA FRONT WINDSHIELD FOR ABOUT $90.00 AND YOU WILL HAVE TO TRIM THE WINDSHIELD IN ORDER FOR IT TO FIT THE BODY-KIT. NOTE: THE MERCY-4 DOES NOT REQUIRE THE FRONT WINDSHIELD TO BE TRIMMED. NOTE: BECAUSE THE FRONT WINDSHIELD IS TEMPERED GLASS MANY GLASS SHOPS WILL TELL YOU THAT THEY CAN NOT TRIM THE EDGES OFF THE WINDSHIELD.

-NOTE: TO KEEP THE WINDSHIELD FROM BREAKING WHILE YOU ARE SAND-BLASTING THE EDGES OFF, YOU CAN USE WHAT WE USE TO PROTECT THE PART OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT WILL REMAIN. WE BUY FROM ALUMA PANEL INC.; AND THEIR PHONE NUMBER IS 1-866-396-7456 , A "SANDMASK STENCIL" MATERIAL THAT COMES IN A 20" X 10 YARD ROLL STYLE # S425S ITEM # 6280101 FOR AROUND $80.00 AND THIS MATERIAL IS A THIN RUBBER MAT MATERIAL THAT HAS AN ADHESIVE BACKING ON IT THAT YOU CAN EASILY CUT AND TRIM TO THE SHAPE YOU NEED AND THEN STICK IT ONTO THE GOOD PART OR CENTER PART OF THE WINDSHIELD AND WHEN THE SAND FROM THE SAND-BLASTING MACHINE HITS THIS MATERIAL IT WILL BOUNCE OFF AND NOT BREAK THE GLASS. THIS MATERIAL IS MADE FOR SAND-BLASTING GLASS AND IT WORKS GREAT. THIS MATERIAL IS MADE BY HARTCO INC. AND SOLD BY ALUMA PANEL INCORPORATED.

-THE EASIEST WAY TO TRIM A TEMPERED WINDSHIELD IS AS FOLLOWS:

1. BUY ONE SMALL PRESSURIZED ABRASIVE BLASTER ALSO CALLED A SAND BLASTER. THIS DEVICE CAN BE BOUGHT NEW OR USED FROM EBAY FOR UNDER $100.00 WITH FREE SHIPPING. NOTE: WE USE A 110 POUND SAND BLASTER.

2. PLACE RUBBERIZED FOAM TAPE ON THE PART OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT YOU WANT TO SAVE AND SOME PEOPLE USE ANY TYPE FOAM OR CARDBOARD AND YOU CAN USE ANYTHING THAT WILL PROTECT THE WINDSHIELD FROM BEING BROKEN AS YOU SAND BLAST AWAY THE UNWANTED EDGES.

3. SAND BLAST OFF ANY UNWANTED GLASS AREA BY STARTING ON THE OUTER EDGE AND SLOWLY WORKING YOUR WAY TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE SAND BLASTER WILL QUICKLY AND CLEANLY EAT AWAY AND REMOVE ANY OUTER EDGE OR OUTER AREA OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT IS NOT WANTED TO REMAIN ON THE WINDSHIELD.

4. AFTER YOU REMOVE THE UNWANTED OUTER EDGES THEN TAKE 40 GRIT SANDPAPER AND HAND SAND THE EDGES OF THE WINDSHIELD SO THAT THE EDGES BECOME SMOOTH.

-NOTE: YOU MUST STRAIN THE SAND IN A STRAINER SO THAT THERE IS NO PEBBLES LEFT IN THE SAND. THE SAND MUST BE SAND ONLY AND NO ROCKS OR PEBBLES. THE ONLY WAY WE HAVE FOUND THAT YOU CAN BREAK THE WINDSHIELD WITH THE SAND BLASTING TECHINQUE IS IF A PEBBLE IS LEFT IN THE SAND AND IT HITS THE WINDSHIELD LIKE A BULLET. AS LONG AS YOUR SAND IS CLEAN YOU CAN SAND BLAST THE UNWANTED EDGES FROM A TEMPERED GLASS WINDSHIELD IN ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND THEN IT TAKES ANOTHER 15 TO 20 MINUTES TO HAND SAND THE EDGES SMOOTH.


 

 

THE VIDEO BELOW EXPLAINS HOW YOU CAN EASILY PUT A WORKING MANUEL DOOR GLASS INTO YOUR SUPERCAR-replica, THEN YOUR DOOR GLASS WILL GO UP AND DOWN. YOUR DOOR GLASS WILL NOT GO UP AND DOWN BUT YOU WILL ALSO NOT HAVE ANY WIND NOISE BECAUSE THE GLASS WILL BE COMPLETELY SEALED-OFF WITH THE BLACK URATHAINE. THE NEXT EASIEST WAY TO COMPLETE THE DOOR GLASS IS BY MAKING THE DOOR GLASS GO UP AND DOWN WITH A MANUEL TURN KNOB AS SHOWN IN THE VIDEO BELOW. THE NEXT EASTIEST WAY TO COMPLETE THE DOOR GLASS IS BY TAKING FOR EXAMPLE THE COMPLETE 2000 SATURN 2DR DOOR AND TAKING NOT ONLY THE DOOR GLASS OUT BUT ALSO ALL THE WORKING DOOR GLASS WINDOW TRACK AND WINDOW MOTOR AND INSTALL IT INTO THE LAMBO REPLICA FIBERGLASS DOOR-SHELL.
